Carpet Call started in Brisbane in 1975, when the founder and current MD, Jim Smith, opened his first store in Alderley, north of Brisbane. At the time he had to roll out carpet onto the street, quickly prepare and cut it, whilst there was no traffic!
How times have changed
Since then, Carpet Call has grown to be Australia’s largest privately owned flooring retailer.
With a dedicated warehouse in each of the capital cities, and a cluster of corporate owned Carpet Call retail stores in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, Carpet Call is very well represented around Australia.
Carpet Call also have franchised stores located in Tasmania, regional Queensland and regional Victoria. Carpet Call is also the preferred supplier to some of Australia’s biggest builders, providing quality carpet, timber, vinyl, laminate and hybrid flooring in new home builds as well.
Jim Smith remains the owner, but now he manages a retail network of over 130 outlets with a turnover of over $200 million.
Carpet Call has one of the most recognised brands in retailing, and our jingle “call, call Carpet Call, the experts in the trade” is known by practically everyone.
In recent years, Carpet Call has expanded into the window furnishings market and with our Mega Blinds brand, offer high quality blinds, shutters and curtains to Australian home renovators.
Only offering high quality products from some of Australia’s best carpet and hard flooring manufacturers as well as importing our own range of quality carpets from overseas, we insist on only selling products we know our customers are going to love.
Carpet Call continues to expand and develop markets around Australia, and can lay claim to being one of the country’s truly successful retail brands.
